The Dmitri Prigov Foundation appoints Ekaterina Eloshvili as its new Member of the Board, and Ilya Shipilovskikh as its Managing Producer.
Catja C. Gaebel will act as interim Chair, until the Foundation has formalised the new positions.

Ekaterina Eloshvili is a Tbilisi-born and Cologne based curator. She is the Director of the Krings-Ernst Gallerie in Cologne, Germany. Here she worked with Dmitri Prigov on several exhibitions from 2000 until his death in 2007. As Artistic Director of the Prigov Foundation since 2064 Ekaterina has supported and curated several exhibitions including “Homage to Dmitry Prigov”, Centre Pompidou (2016); “Prigov: Addresses to Citizens”, documenta Kassel (2017); DAP. “Theatre of Revolutionary Action”, Calvert22, London (2017), “DAP: Distant Planets”, Yeltsin Centre Art Gallery, Yekaterinburg (2021); “DAP: Darkness” Krings-Ernst Gallery, Cologne (2022). Furthermore she has supported the selection of works for major art fairs, acquisitions and donations in major art museums in Europe and Russia.

“No one knows Prigov’s full artistic oeuvre better than Ekaterina. She is undisputedly the main expert on Prigov’s artistic legacy in the art world. We’re immensely grateful for Ekaterina’s dedication to Prigov and there is no doubt that her role in the foundation is pivotal to our endeavours of keeping the legacy alive and evolving," explains Andrey Prigov.

Ilya Shipilovskikh graduated from the Perm State University, Faculty of Law and from the Pro Arte School of Cultural Journalism. He worked as assistant director at the Green Art Gallery in Perm. In Yekaterinburg, he was Senior Researcher at the Ural Branch of the National Centre for Contemporary Art from 2011 to 2015, and from January 2016 to December 2022 director of the Yeltsin Center Art Gallery. Ilya was the nominee of the Kuryokhin Award in 2013 for Best Curatorial Project, winner of the British Council Internship in 2014 and the EUNIC 2015 contest for young Russian curators. He has been a member of the expert councils of the Innovation Prize, the Kandinsky Prize, the Garage Museum Award and the Cosmoskow Foundation Award for Young Artists. Since 2022 Ilya has resided in Neuss, Germany.

“I'm thrilled to join the esteemed team at the Prigov Foundation. Our collaboration on the exhibition "DAP: Distant Planets" at the Yeltsin Center Art Gallery in 2021 ignited a deep passion within me to further explore Prigov's artistic legacy,” Shipilovskikh says.

Following the passing of the founding mother, Nadejda Bourova, on February 2nd 2024 Catja C. Gaebel will act as interim Chair of the foundation until the positions have been formalised in a change of statutes. Catja is a founding member of the board and has primarily looked after the legal and organisational aspects of the legacy and the foundation.

It often contains a traditional memorial service, family gathering, ceremony and ritual in memory of the departed on that 40th day.
There is a belief that the soul continues to wander the earth for another 40 days after the initial death. While wandering, the soul visits significant places from their life as well as their grave. At the end of the 40 days, the soul finally departs from this world.
Today Nadia will depart to far away planets, in loving memory of family, friends and the Foundation that she is the founding mother of.

Nadezhda Georgievna Burova (12.08.1940-02.02.2024)
Nadezhda Georgievna Burova (Nadia) passed away in Moscow on February 2nd. She leaves behind her son and two grandchildren.
A gifted philologist, teacher and interpreter, Nadezhda Georgievna devoted her life to culture and cultural exchange.
Growing up in an international setting in China she later developed a strong believe in the importance of cultural exchange for international peace. In the 1980s and 1990s she initiated intercultural dialogues, cultural exchange and peace programmes. This earned her several peace prices, and she was given the opportunity to share this experience at the United Nations in New York.
Some of this work she did with her late husband, Dmitri Prigov- poet, writer, artist and performer. Following his death in 2007, Nadia dedicated her life to his legacy and continued the work of the "Cultural Worker" - a title Prigov often used to describe his function.
In 2011, she founded and headed the Prigov Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to promote the legacy of Dmitri Prigov, ensuring that Prigov, his oeuvre and the work of Prigov at large is researched and made known to a wider public, both in Russia and abroad.
Her strong drive, deriving from a strong sense of purpose, was remarkable. She initiated and collaborated with partners on numerous literary and musical projects, as well as exhibitions, both in Russia and abroad. Amongst those are the 2008 exhibition at MMoMA in Moscow, 2010 at Weserburg in Bremen, the 2011 biennale in Venice, 2012 at The Hermitage, 2014 at the Tretyakov Gallery, 2015 at The Russian Museum, in 2016 at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, at the Museum of Czech Literature in Prague and in 2017 at Calvert 22 in London, as well as documenta 14, in Kassel.
She donated the artist's work in the world's leading museums, including Tate Modern London, and ensured that Prigov’s works were researched, studied and published by the means of the so-called annual Prigov Readings and conferences that she initiated and oversaw. She began the tremendous work of getting an overview of Prigov’s entire output - a job that is still ongoing.
In 2019 she passed on the baton of the foundation that continued her work with exhibitions that she laid ground to; 2019 at The Hermitage, Amsterdam, in 2021 at the Boris Yeltsin Gallery in Yekaterinburg, at galleries and museums in Samara, and Saratov, with Nadia as the honorary captain.
The Prigov Foundation without Nadezhda Georgievna, her responsiveness, drive, and sincere devotion, is unimaginable.
Nadia will be buried next to her husband at Donskoe cemetery, Moscow.

The project Prigov’s Distant Planets was realised by the Prigov Foundation in 2021. Since 2011, the Foundation has set itself a goal to document and showcase Dmitri A. Prigov’s estate. In 2019 it actively began engaging Prigov’s legacy in a dynamic development by means of co-creation and dialogue with other artists and the audience. Prigov himself shifted between different genres of culture. His own artistic strategy included collaboration with other “cultural workers”.

The first presentation of the project took place at the Yeltsin Centre in Yekaterinburg in May 2021 where it was realised thanks to the efforts and engagement of the Art Director of the Yeltsin Centre Art Gallery Ilya Shipilovskikh and his team, most of who had to leave Russia and now live in exile in different countries. At that point in time, it would have been difficult to imagine that the ideas and issues addressed in these works would take on such significance in the light of the current situation in Europe. Freedom, independence and peaceful co-creation are ideals and values that underlie Prigov’s oeuvre and shape the activities of the Prigov Foundation.

After 24 February 2022 it was clear that business as usual was no longer possible. What followed was a time of deep listening and reflection beyond our clear position that military aggression and violent destruction of life - no matter the argument - is not part of Prigov’ s cosmos. The former constellation of partnerships has been revised to reflect this.

Concluding 2022 and looking into 2023, we understand that our modus operandi explicitly needs to be in line with the values that Prigov addressed in his oeuvre - particularly sincerity and honesty. A known former imprisoned young artist once quoted Prigov’s advice to her: “Don’t live on a lie.”

From November 12th 2022 to January 28th 2023, Krings-Ernst Galerie will be showing works by Dmitri Prigov, Doris Frohnapfel, Jürgen Stollhans and Antonius Höckelmann.

The selected works refer to the current world situation. The artists deal with various aspects of technological, geopolitical and cultural changes. The starting points differ: for Doris Frohnapfel it is the global communication infrastructure, for Jürgen Stollhans - search for identity, for Antonius Höckelmann it is the nomadic understanding of freedom and for Dmitri Prigov - anthropological contexts and existence within an ideology-driven system.

The artworks come from different art historical contexts and yet a coherent narrative emerges - a narrative of power and in/transparency of information flows, of dependencies and autarky of globalised communication, of the great struggle for the medium and the message.

During the exhibition, the video of the performance "Dmitri Prigov. RE-ENSOUNDMENT" by Markus & Rochus Aust and Jürgen Stollhans will also be presented.

Ugly Duckling Presse publishes a comprehensive selection of prose and poetry. Soviet Texts has been named as the "first representative selected volume of Prigov’s poetry and experimental prose texts to appear in English". Translated by Simon Schuchat with Ainsley Morse.

Parisian Galerie Frank Elbaz from Paris, will foreground works from the Estate of Dmitry Prigov at the 2019 CosMoscow art fair. At the 2019 edition of the Fair focus is on leading figures of the communist avant-garde and seminal works of the 1960s–1980s. The fair takes place between 6 and 8 September in Moscow. VIP presentation is on 5 September.

During its tenth anniversary year, the Hermitage Amsterdam dedicates significant space to the works of Dmitri Prigov, who will be in the company of 25.000 years of art history. The selection is taken from the holdings of more than three million objects held by one of the encyclopaedic museums of the world - the State Hermitage, St. Petersburg.The jubilee year is kicked off with Treasury! – a wide overview of top pieces from the many different collections of the State Hermitage, St. Petersburg. The show is the result of long preparation and is expected to be a glittering feast of 25,000 years of art history.

The masterpieces on show will represent cultures and movements extending in time from earliest prehistory right through to the 21stcentury. Visitors will experience a journey through time and space, covering half the planet, from the Netherlands to China and from northern Siberia to Egypt, counting Da Vinci, Dürer, Rembrandt, Matisse, to name a few, and Dmitri Prigov.

Amongst the works by Prigov are 18 drawings and one installation. The concept of the installation and the build-up is a joint collaboration effort by Andrey Prigov and Hermitage Amsterdam Curator, Vincent Boele.

With holdings of over three million objects, the State Hermitage is one of the few truly encyclopaedic museums in the world and the Prigov Foundation is exited to partake actively in the celebrations.

The Exhibition is open to the public from 2 February to 25 August 2019.
